Providing the Link to Success - A Scholarship Donor Story
Finding money for an education is not a simple task for the average high school senior, but the burden is lighter for students in the Midlands area because of The LinkScholars Program Fund, created by The Columbia Chapter of The Links, Inc. and administered by Central Carolina Community Foundation. The scholarship is geared toward helping students who miss out on other scholarships attain the goal of a college education. "These scholarships help students with 'B' averages, not because they do not have the grades to succeed, but because the money is just not there," said Dr. Felicia Goins-Finney.

The Links, Inc. is a national womens' organization committed to sponsoring a variety of educational, cultural and civic activities in their local communities. Providing financial assistance to LinkScholars is only part of their commitment. They have also helped recipients secure summer jobs, provided healthcare and solicited stores to help students with their professional wardrobes.

After managing the scholarship for almost six years, The Links established the fund with Central Carolina Community Foundation. "We placed the scholarship with the Community Foundation to take away investment stress," said Lynette Allston. "We wanted to create a permanent fund so that future students will benefit."

LinkScholar Jacob Johnson explains, "What separates LinkScholars from the average student is the tenacity with which we approach our studies and pursue outside assistance to further our dreams."
