Historic schools hold generations of stories, connections, and memories that help shape the communities around them. The South Carolina Historic Black Schools Preservation Network works to preserve, connect, and celebrate the legacy of these important places by bringing together alumni groups, communities, and preservation partners. Through collaboration and shared learning, the network will support its members in protecting the historic structures and stories while engaging younger generations and the public in their continued preservation.
Central Carolina Community Foundation helped bring this group together, serving as a connector and convener to create space for conversation, collaboration, shared learning, and the formation of the network. Based in the Midlands with the potential to expand statewide, the network connects communities around a shared purpose while providing opportunities to exchange resources, strengthen preservation efforts, and explore ways to preserve the history and legacy of South Carolina’s historic Black schools for generations to come.
Through this collective effort, the South Carolina Historic Black Schools Preservation Network is helping ensure these schools remain sources of pride, learning, and connection within their communities.
