Aflac Power Hour Spotlight: St. John Neumann Catholic School

For years, St. John Neumann Catholic School has been carrying out its vision to be the Light of Christ for each other and our neighbor while living the Gospel in a thriving academic community. To help further their organization’s vision and mission, St. John Neumann Catholic School has participated in Midlands Gives and was a 2021 Aflac Power Hour Prize winner. To learn more about how this Aflac Power Hour Prize will positively impact the organization, we interviewed Ronald Poles, Principal of St. John Neumann Catholic School.

What is the mission of St. John Neumann Catholic School?

To develop good stewards of our world, St. John Neumann Catholic School is dedicated to serving all who seek an environment rich in Christian values and academic excellence.

What individual’s story stands out to you and shows the impact of your organization?

As we prepare for the graduation of our sixth-grade class, we are highlighting our alumni. Here is testimony that we are making a difference every day. The following is from a recent Citadel Graduate, Ian Stephan. Ian attended and is a graduate of St. John Neumann Catholic School.

“Saint John Neumann prepared me to face not only the academic rigors of middle school, high school, and college at The Citadel, but I was also adequately prepared with the necessary tools to face the challenges you can’t prepare yourself for by studying a book. Saint John Neumann provided me with a solid religious and academic foundation which will not leave my side as I experience the challenges of life.

More importantly, Saint John Neumann instilled a set of morals and ethics which, when applied to everyday life and decision-making, will not lead you astray. The ability for a school to provide students at a young age with such a sturdy foundation is hard to come by, yet Saint John Neumann has mastered this. Saint John Neumann has provided me with everything necessary to navigate and excel in life, and I am forever grateful for my time at this school.”

How can those in the community get involved with your organization?

In a non-Covid year, we welcome volunteers to work with and in our school. We appreciate any and all support in person or financially.

How will the funds from the Aflac Power Hour Prize benefit your organization?

This year, we have focused on replacing our gym/auditorium sound system and will use the funds to continue this project. We hope to welcome our families to reinstated gatherings, celebrations, and activities to our largest space and have a system that will allow their participation.
