March 25, 2014
The Sonoco Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hartsville, S.C.-based Sonoco Products Company, has selected Central Carolina Community Foundation to manage its grants administration, evaluation, outreach and distribution. Since 1999, the Sonoco Foundation has sought to improve the communities where the company has operations. Last year, the Sonoco Foundation made cash contributions of more than $2.5 million to 65 nonprofit organizations.
“Central Carolina Community Foundation is the natural partner as we seek to strengthen our philanthropic efforts at the Sonoco Foundation,” said Roger Schrum, Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs. “While all giving decisions will remain with the Sonoco Foundation’s board, we feel confident in Central Carolina Community Foundation’s ability to assist us in continuing to meet the needs of our communities.”
The Sonoco Foundation will continue to focus its support in the areas of education; health and wellness; arts and culture; environment; and community development.
“We are delighted to enter into this relationship with the Sonoco Foundation,” said JoAnn Turnquist, President and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “Our goal is to serve as a vehicle for philanthropy, so we welcome opportunities to offer creative, cost-effective and tax-efficient ways for corporations like Sonoco to invest in the charitable causes they care about most.”
The Sonoco Foundation accepts grant proposals from nonprofit organizations servicing Darlington and/or Florence counties. For submission guidelines, visit our grant opportunities section.
