June 14, 2016 (Columbia, S.C.) – Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ expert on philanthropy, has released the first ever Midlands Gives video thanking supporters and participants of Midlands Gives, the annual, 24-hour online giving day. The Midlands Gives video – created by local production company Cinema Couture – captures the excitement of the giving day, which raised $1.6 million for 382 local charities on May 3, 2016. To view the leaderboard and prize winners, visit www.midlandsgives.org.

Midlands Gives is one of almost 100 giving days that takes place in cities across the country in conjunction with the national online giving initiative, Give Local America. This year, technical issues with the national online giving platform caused major delays in online giving; still, Midlands Gives raised $1,603,647 dollars via 12,560 gifts for 382 local nonprofit organizations across the 11-country service area of the Community Foundation.

In 2015, the event raised $1,543,032 via 11,372 gifts to 251 nonprofits; and the inaugural Midlands Gives in 2014 raised $704,932.23 via 5,186 individual gifts to 150 nonprofits.
