Knitting for the Needy

2010 Group Champion

The group Knitting for the Needy was formed in 2006 at Still Hopes Retirement Community as a way for residents to give back to their community. Each Wednesday, the group meets to knit together and make plans for upcoming projects or goals. Since the group's inception, their needles have been steadily clicking away, making items for a variety of worthy causes. Over the last four years they have responded to request from organizations in the community, always rising to meet the goal, no matter how great the challenge.

Their dedication to providing knitted items for those in need have resulted in over 300 baby items donated to Palmetto Health Richland's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; over 100 scarves and hats given to the Salvation Army, Hannah House, and the homeless;  50 soft caps donated to local patients undergoing chemotherapy;  blankets donated to Tri County Hospice patients; 38 pairs of slippers and 18 blankets given to a local nursing home in need;  and lagans knitted for patients to use while undergoing chemotherapy at the Lexington Oncology Center.
