Central Carolina Community Foundation Awards Scholarships to South Carolina Students

August 7, 2012

Central Carolina Community Foundation has awarded 44 scholarships totaling $110,900 to some of South Carolina’s best and brightest students.

The Community Foundation manages more than 35 scholarship funds that provide educational opportunities for future generations. Many of the Foundation’s scholarship funds have been set up in honor or memory of a loved one or someone who has helped the donor become successful in life. Each scholarship has its own specific purpose and eligibility criteria according to the recommendations of the donor.

“With the rising costs of a college education, college scholarships are more important than ever,” said Foundation President and CEO JoAnn Turnquist. “This financial assistance will help prepare these students to become productive members of their respective communities. We congratulate each of our scholarship recipients and wish them well as they continue to learn and grow.”

One of the Foundation's scholarship fund holders is the Columbia Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The members of the Columbia Chapter of Links, Inc. honored their scholarship recipients at a luncheon at the Capital City Club.
