Women Engaged (W.E.), an African American Giving Circle, will host a multigenerational discussion on responsive giving in conjunction with a Pop-Up, abridged edition of The Soul of Philanthropy art exhibit – a photographic and narrative exploration of conscious giving for social change that is currently touring the country. Entering its fifth year of observance, Black Philanthropy Month is designed as a multimedia campaign—online and within communities—to inform, inspire and invest in Black philanthropic leadership. During August, communities of color are encouraged to expand their paradigm and to remember that EVERYONE has valuable resources to give and share. “The Gallery is the perfect place for us to hold a discussion about the new “Frame of Mind” that we all need to develop regarding our capacity to give – and specifically how women can help shift that view to address social challenges.” states Anita Garrett, one of the event organizers. Through education and awareness about the true nature of philanthropy, individuals are asked to think creatively about how they might pool their resources and make strategic decisions in response to the needs of their communities.

Guest speakers include Dr. Tanya Smith Brice – Dean, School of Health and Human Services, Benedict College and Valaida Fullwood – Lecturer and Award Winning Author of Giving Back. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
